How to Choose the Right Chandelier Size for Your Room?

Your chandelier needs to be the proper width and height to function properly within your home. Here is how to measure both your width and height. 

Width  
Measure the length of your room and the width of your room. The length + the width (in feet) will give you the chandelier width in inches you need for your space.

• For a small room choose : 13 - 22 inches wide 
  
• For a medium sized room choose : 23 - 30 inches wide 
  
• For a large room choose : 31 inches or larger 

Height 

Once you have the proper width determined, it is time to calculate the height for your chandelier. 
First, measure the room height and then multiple the height by 3. The result gives you the recommended chandelier height in inches.

Ceiling Height 

Lower ceiling height could call for a smaller size chandelier than the above suggestion. 

Placement

The placement of your chandelier depends on the location where the chandelier will be placed.  

• Over a dining table - leave about 32 to 34 inches between the bottom of the chandelier and table top. 
  
• Kitchen island - leave about 32 to 34 inches between the bottom of the chandelier to the counter top.  
  
• Living room or bedroom - leave plenty of space for people to move around under the chandelier. This is about 7 to 8 feet above the floor. 
  
• Foyer or open space - hand the chandelier at eye level or slightly below the second floor.  Make sure to leave enough space for people to move around.
